My mom stayed at an Airbnb right around the
corner from Loch Road, so that was really convenient for all the activities we
wanted to do! We were pretty busy every day, doing everything from hiking
Lion’s Head, to getting breakfast (and lunch) at Old Biscuit Mill, to taking
the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain.
It was so much fun getting to show her everything that I’ve done so far,
and getting to try some new things too!
It was really nice getting to spend time with my mom after not seeing her
for 2 months, and it was cool to go on adventures but also just spend time
hanging out and getting lunch or dinner.
I think some of our favorite things were going up to UCT for a few hours
to just sit in the beautiful weather and people-watch, going on the community
tour with Vernon and a few other co-educators and their families, and going to
the waterfront to shop, eat at the market, and do the Robben Island tour! Drawing on UConn’s core value of Human Rights the Cape Town Abroad Program provides one of the best ways to expand horizons, learn about oneself, & work for social justice while gaining skills essential to becoming a well-informed global citizen. This life changing adventure includes a three-day a week internship; three thought-provoking courses; and an opportunity to engage in a greater understanding of South Africa’s troubled past while contributing to its vibrant hope for the future

Welcome to Our Blog
As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey. As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable UConn students to this place I have come to know and love.
In peace, with hope,
