Welcome to Our Blog
As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey. As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable UConn students to this place I have come to know and love.
In peace, with hope,

Katherine realizing there is not much more time here

I can't believe that we only have about a month left in South Africa, and our trip to Johannesburg is swiftly approaching. I'm more anxious about getting the most out of this trip and having as many meaningful experiences as I can. I'm a bit stressed about returning home, as well, since that means I'm graduating and I'll be looking for a job.

This week at my internship, Erica and I facilitated our second event: the community dialogue, with over 100 participants including stakeholders from various human rights organizations. There were three performances by Mums' dance group, and we were blown away by their costumes and talent. We felt the event was very productive to moving towards solutions to community issues like sexual assault and gang violence. After the event, we were approached by organizations like TAC and Safety Lab to set up a meeting in order to combine our efforts. We're hoping to have a meeting next week.

The weather is getting slightly colder, but there are still blazing hot days. I'm enjoying going to the beach and walking to the UCT campus to do homework and use the wifi. More and more, I'm thinking about how sad it is to part from the friends I've made in Cape Town, since I have no idea when I'll see them again. It's especially strange to think about being apart from my housemates, who I have come to love.
