I’ve
been in the States for a day and a half, and I already want to go back to Cape
Town. I was constantly learning about
important social issues, and I constantly had a smile on my face as we explored
the beauty of Cape Town. I miss the Old
Biscuit Mill, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Main Road, Lion’s Head, and the
beach. I created memories at these
places – memories that I never want to forget.
I find myself continuously scrolling through photos of our trip,
reminding myself of all the good times I had.
I especially miss the mountains.
They became an image of peace and happiness for me; they symbolized
home, and I will miss seeing them every day.
I’m thankful that everyone on the trip goes to UConn. My co-educators are the only people who truly
understand how I feel right now.

I
want to say thank you to the 16 girls (and Ethan) who shared this life-changing
experience with me. Each and every one
of you positively contributed to my time in Cape Town. I learned so much from your stories about
your internships, families, and life experiences. It’s going to be hard adjusting to a life
where I’m not surrounded 24/7 by my best friends.
It’s
hard to put into words how I’m feeling at the moment; I’m happy to see my
boyfriend and family in Connecticut, but I’m longing for the pure contentment I
felt while in Cape Town. I love to
document my life through photography, so here are some photos that portray the
happiness I felt while in Cape Town.
Photos can tell more than any words I write here.
