Welcome to Our Blog
As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey. As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable UConn students to this place I have come to know and love.
In peace, with hope,

Taylor had a great weekend with tons of fun and relaxation!

After going on the Garden Route last weekend, it was nice to get back into the schedule of internships and school! I am getting more comfortable at Eros School, and after talking to Vernon on Thursday I may be getting the chance to work more closely with their guidance department. In Vincent’s class we had our first group project due, and it was a lot of fun to see everyone’s creative presentations about the South African Constitution.  We are learning so much about the country’s history already, and it is interesting to apply things we saw during orientation to the information we learn in class!

Taylor at Muizenberg Beach
This weekend was filled with more exciting new experiences! On Friday a bunch of us celebrated Alex’s 21st birthday by going to get pizza in Sea Point, then walked along the boardwalk which was beautiful at night.  On Saturday we went to a soccer match in the city, Ajax versus Cape Town City.  It was my first time going to see a professional soccer game, and it was so cool to see how passionate the fans are! Earlier on Saturday I also hiked Lion’s Head for the first time—it was amazing! It was definitely challenging but the part of the trail near the top with chains and ladders to climb was so much fun.  And the view of Cape Town and the ocean from the top of course was incredible.  On Sunday a few of us headed to Muizenberg to take surfing lessons! It was a bit rainy in the morning when we got there, but by the time we were in the ocean the weather was perfect.  We all had a really fun day attempting to surf and of course getting a little sunburnt (even with lots of sunscreen!) Overall it was a great weekend with tons of fun and relaxation!
